FOREWORD

In searching for the wealth and riches of earth, and they abound all about us, one needs a few helps in finding them—maybe a pick and a shovel, with a mind to work. Likewise there are spiritual treasures which abound in the word of God that are to be found if we search diligently enough. Here, too, we need helps in digging them out. In preparing this series of workbooks, brother Robert Harkrider is providing the helps—the pick and shovel— which searchers of truth will find most valuable in their search for spiritual treasures.

Today the Christian faces many questions, some of a national and international nature. It appears that a nuclear war could break out at any time to the destruction of civilization as we know it. This raises the question, Who is in control? Does the future lie in the hands of Russia’s hierarchy, the congress and president of the United States, or rulers of the rest of the nations? Daniel answers the question: It is in the hands of none of these, but in the hand of God. He rules in the kingdom of men—the kingdoms of the world.

Brother Harkrider sees clearly Daniel’s revelation of this principle and has set it forth in this workbook in a clear and concise manner. The book is usable. With the workbook in the hands of both the teacher and the student, the teacher instructing and directing and the students applying themselves in using the book as intended, each will find answers to his questions and rich treasures of faith and assurance with which to face a world of uncertainty. He will be assured that all is in the hand of God (cf., Eccl. 9:1), and that the future will be determined by the God of heaven and not by the nations of earth.

In putting his labor of love into the production of these workbooks, brother Harkrider is making a worthwhile and valuable contribution to the understanding of truth and the spiritual growth of the church. Of course they must be used. As the pick and shovel can uncover the gold of the field only by use and hard work, so a workbook can produce results only as it is used; but in its proper use it will bring rich rewards.

It is my pleasure to commend this book on Daniel as a valuable tool in aiding a class to learn the valuable lessons of Daniel, and to commend brother Harkrider for bringing it out. May the fruit of his labor be realized in the spiritual growth of the church through a better understanding of the prophets.
